Today, I saw someone share an album on Facebook. The photos are created by a Slovenian photographer Matej Pelhjan for a 12 year old boy, Luka, who has Muscular Dystrophy. He dreamt of walking, exploring, and getting into mischief. The photographer helped him.
I started thinking about my friend at St.Joseph's home who shared a similar disorder. He told me he dreamt of taking a walk down Orchard Road. By dreaming, I meant that he literally dreamt about it and longed to be able to do that. What did I do? I simply listened and sympathised. Then we chatted. That's all. Why didn't I think of a way to help him realise his dream?
It is those who go that extra mile who can generate a colossal difference. I'm sure the photos meant something to the 12 year old boy. And I'm sure it generated public awareness and may even strengthen the kindness movement.
You never know the spillover effects of inspiration and warmth.
The last time I visited him was in January or February this year.
